Strategic

Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

We all have things that get our brains working and our adrenaline pumping in ways that make us feel alive and engaged with all that we are. Strategic thinking does it for me.

Now, I’m not talking about the ever so boring tick box activities involved in filling out a goal setting form or a plan of action on a personal review. I’m talking about taking difficult complex issues or situations and facing them head on - with the belief that there is an excellent way in which to navigate through it.

I love the wrestling with big ideas that is involved in this process. I love the challenge of having to learn and adapt as you go. Then there are the ‘Aha!’ moments, where revelation dawns and a clear path forms in your mind opening multiple possibilities that were previously only problems. It’s just so good!

And all that is why I am so excited to be blogging about the environment and ways we can live more sustainably. It’s a tough nut to crack – but I’m going to do it. And it’s going to be fun!

My plan is to do a few mini-series on major issues, look at some of the terms and language around all things ‘Eco’ and focus in on specific areas of our homes. I will include options and solutions as I go as well as a list of resources if you are wanting to go deeper.

There really is a lot of good information and advice out there, but I know it is hard to know where to start at times. I had wanted to kick off the resources page with a few ‘beginners’ items but struggled to find any!

Most of the documentaries and books I’ve come across get pretty intense pretty fast. So I ended up just listing two documentaries that have helped me in my journey. They provided me with much needed context and perspective on environmental issues as well as my role in them.

The other difficultly I’ve faced in trying to learn how to live more sustainably and eco-friendly is knowing what’s really true. As I’ve waded through the information out there, online, on tv or in books, I’ve found contradictory options and solutions.

So, as I embark on this blogging journey I will to the best of my ability:

  • Be honest about the unknowns.

  • Reference my sources.

  • Give people and companies the benefit of the doubt.

  • Let you know when I’ve got it wrong.

And I hope that together we can tackle the complex environmental issues we face with expectant excitement!
